We are thankful for God's grace on minor mistakes like the typo in our previous banner, and even our greatest errors of sin. In today's suggested reading from the bulletin, Isaiah Chapter 7, we see the consequences of Israel (Ephraim) separating and going against Judah, but with the prophesied child, Immanuel, "God with Us," the Lord will bring days that have not come since the two kingdom's split - that is to say, one Kingdom of God, in the forgiving and reconciling Jesus Christ, in whom all things will be made new. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah+7&version=NRSV
Well that's embarrassing but what is Lent without repentance and humility? Plus, repentance and humility are a lot easier when you can laugh at yourself. So, here it goes, 45 people have seen this post and only one noticed the error. If you find it, then you are a Facebook genius like all of those quizzes that supposedly only 10 percent of the population can pass. Enjoy, and we'll do better next time!
In the second chapter of Genesis, we hear the story of Adam and Eve and often the conversations we have are about evolution or creation, instead of the fundamental truth that is there regardless of how you view creation. God granted humanity life and this life is, in and of itself, freedom. We sin and my try to hide from God, but we are searched and found more deeply than we can search for and find ourselves. We are loved by the One True God who made us, gave us life, and longs for us to be free from sin and death with Jesus Christ as our Lord. We are not alone because God has given us each other, but even when we feel lost in a world of selfishness and feel alone, God is always with us in every circumstance. Keep the ministry of and the people served by Sister Jean's Kitchen in your prayers and in your thoughts to discern what God may be calling you to do. The news from yesterday and today will cause real pain for some of the most vulnerable among us. It is important to remember the words of Christ in these times and be open to how you can be a part of God's reconciliation in this circumstance. Today's suggested reading on APC bulletins happened to be from Matthew 5:1-12, which is the start of the Sermon on the Mount: "When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: 'Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.'" From Luke 6:20-26, Jesus reworks His sermon to make another similar but sharper point, perhaps as he was speaking to crowd with both a more disparate population of poor and rich gathered on the plain: "Then he looked up at his disciples and said: 'Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who are hungry now, f for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets. 'But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. Woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep. Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors did to the false prophets.'" https://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/news/press/atlantic_city/atlantic-city-deems-sister-jean-s-kitchen-location-unsafe/article_03ed35f5-afbb-5379-9765-66a0d30ca191.html
